Tapas
तपस्
/tʌ.pʌs/
Tapas is the inner heat of spiritual practice: the burning that purifies the seeker of past karmas and the residue of countless lifetimes. Tapasa brahma vijijnasasva: by tapas, seek to know Brahman, says the Taittiriya Upanishad. Every disciplined Sadhana is a form of tapas, consuming what you are not until only what you truly are remains. The path is not the bed of roses; it is the bed of tapas, and it ends only in Satchitananda.
